Who we are
Silke Leber MS, LPC, NCC
Silke is the owner of Uptown Counseling and Psychotherapy LLC, whose professional journey in mental health counseling began in the late 1990s in Austria. Trained within Europe’s rigorous clinical traditions, she brings decades of experience grounded in both evidence-based practice and a nuanced understanding of cultural context. Over the years she has integrated international perspectives with contemporary therapeutic modalities, cultivating a practice that emphasizes compassion, clarity, and client-centered growth. Her leadership at Uptown Counseling reflects a commitment to clinical excellence, ongoing professional development, and creating a warm, sophisticated space where clients feel seen and supported.
She gained extensive experience in the clinical mental health counseling field by working in a mental health hospital, residential, and private practice setting. Her work in the mental health hospital equipped Silke with crisis counseling skills, de-escalation techniques, and the ability to apply brief, intensive therapies such as CBT and DBT in a fast-paced environment. In private practice she honed individualized, integrative treatment approaches tailored to each client’s needs. Her educational background in psychodynamic approaches enables a deep understanding of unconscious processes, early childhood experiences, and how repressed emotions shape adult behavior and relationships.
Silke offers therapy sessions in English and German. She enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families of all stages of life. She meets her clients where they are at and supports them throughout their journey. Her empathic, non-judgmental, and respectful personality makes her a successful and sought after therapist. Silke provides a physically and emotionally safe place for her clients.
Silke works with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, relationship and marriage difficulties, emotional and mental abuse, identity crises, post-traumatic stress disorder, and the wide range of other challenges that life can bring to individuals and their families. She brings extensive experience and deep clinical knowledge in supporting women who are leaving abusive relationships, helping them process trauma, reclaim their sense of self, and rebuild purposeful, safe lives after abuse. Her approach is compassionate, strengths-based, and tailored to each client’s needs, integrating practical coping strategies with trauma-informed care to foster lasting recovery and empowerment.
Moreover, Silke deeply values and honors the opportunity to support veterans and active-duty service members, recognizing the unique strength and sacrifices inherent in military life. At her previous workplace she was afforded the privilege of offering counseling services specifically to active members and Veterans of the United States Military, an experience that sharpened her understanding of military culture, trauma, reintegration challenges, and the resilience of those who serve. She approaches this work with respect, cultural competence, and a commitment to creating a safe, confidential space where service members can process difficult experiences, build coping skills, and pursue healing on their own terms.
Additionally, Silke’s firsthand experience of adapting to a new country and culture—rebuilding a life, navigating unfamiliar systems, and forging a professional identity—deeply informs her work as both consultant and therapist. Having confronted the practical challenges and emotional complexities of acculturation herself, she offers clients not only clinical expertise but empathetic insight into the subtle losses, identity shifts, and resilience required during transition. Her dual perspective enables culturally sensitive guidance tailored to stress, career reinvention, language barriers, and social integration, helping clients find balance, harness strengths, and construct meaningful lives in their new surroundings.
